Sullia: Sullia police have arrested a warrant accused who had allegedly been absconding for the past year to evade court appearances in connection with a case registered at the Sullia police station.

The arrested person has been identified as Surendra, a resident of Kanakamajalu in Sullia.

Accused wanted in 2021 case

Police said Surendra was wanted in connection with Crime No. 33/2021 registered at Sullia police station under Sections 354, 323, 324, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The case had been pending before the court, and the accused had allegedly remained absconding for about a year while evading court proceedings. Based on the warrant issued against him, Sullia police initiated efforts to trace and apprehend him.

Arrest made in Alatti

A team from Sullia police station traced Surendra to Alatti and apprehended him.

The police team involved in the arrest included head constable Raju Naik D and police constable Somayya Hiremath. Their efforts led to the arrest of the accused, who was subsequently taken into custody.

The arrest was carried out as part of the police action to execute the pending warrant and ensure the accused’s appearance before the court.

Remanded to judicial custody

Following his arrest, Surendra was produced before the court for further proceedings.

The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.

The arrest brings the year-long period of absconding in the case to an end, with further proceedings to continue before the court in accordance with law.

Police have continued efforts to trace persons against whom warrants are pending in cases registered within their jurisdiction, with the execution of such warrants forming part of routine law enforcement and court compliance measures.

The Sullia police are proceeding with the case based on the court’s directions and the applicable legal provisions.
