Sullia Hobli in Dakshina Kannada district recorded Karnataka’s highest maximum temperature of 41.4°C in the past 24 hours. Several locations in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu districts reported temperatures around 38-40°C. Due to high relative humidity (40-50%), the perceived temperature feels even hotter, reaching 40-50°C. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) predicts no major relief in the next two days.
Precautionary measures issued
Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP has urged residents to avoid outdoor exposure between 12 PM and 3 PM, stay hydrated, and avoid stale or high-protein food. Citizens should consume ORS, tender coconut, and buttermilk to prevent heat-related illnesses. Farmers are advised to wear caps while working, and domestic animals should be kept in the shade with sufficient water.
Soaring demand for cooling drinks
With the extreme heat, demand for tender coconuts, fruit juices, buttermilk, and watermelon has surged. Lemon juice and soda sharbat are being sold for ₹30-₹50 as people seek relief from the scorching sun.
