Mangaluru: Three youths from Kerala’s Kasaragod district have been booked for allegedly sexually harassing a group of young women at a waterfall spot coming under the jurisdiction of Belthangady police station. The accused were reportedly detained by members of the public after the women objected to the alleged behaviour before police were informed about the incident.
Incident reported during visit to waterfall
According to police sources, the incident took place on May 20 when three young women studying in Mangaluru had visited a waterfall location within the Belthangady police station limits.
Police said the accused allegedly misbehaved with the women and subjected them to sexual harassment during their visit to the tourist spot.
The accused have been identified as Abdul Khader Altaf (36), Faizal Adil (27), and Usman Saleem (18), all reportedly from Kasaragod district in Kerala.
Public intervened after women objected
Police stated that the women objected to the alleged conduct of the accused at the location. Following this, members of the public present at the spot intervened in the matter.
People at the location reportedly restrained the accused and informed the police about the incident. Police later reached the spot and brought the three individuals to the police station for questioning.
Officials said the timely intervention by people present at the location helped prevent further escalation of the situation.
Case registered, investigation underway
Belthangady police have registered a case in connection with the incident under Crime No. 60/2026 and initiated further investigation.
Police officials stated that legal proceedings will continue based on the findings of the investigation and evidence collected in the case.
Authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the incident as the investigation remains in progress.
