In a devastating accident on the morning of May 27 near Mura Junction, three individuals suffered serious injuries following a collision between a private bus and a car.

As per initial reports, the mishap occurred while a Shraddha ritual was underway at the home of Ishwar Bhat of Andepuni. His daughter Apoorva and granddaughter had arrived from Bengaluru to participate in the ceremony. Ishwar Bhat was personally bringing them back from Puttur town when their car was allegedly hit from behind by a speeding private bus near Mura.

The impact left the car badly damaged and its passengers trapped inside. Passersby, including Panjigudde Ishwar Bhat — president of the Puttur Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple Committee — who was returning after milk distribution along the same road, rushed to help.

Locals played a crucial role in the rescue. Using an iron rod, they managed to force open the crushed vehicle and extricate the injured. The swift action of these Good Samaritans helped prevent further tragedy.

The injured were promptly shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for urgent medical attention. Their current condition remains unknown.

Puttur traffic police reached the site shortly after and carried out a spot investigation. Authorities are likely to probe the bus driver’s role in the incident.

The local community remains shaken by the accident, which marred a solemn family occasion.
