Mangaluru: The investigation into the murder of a rowdy-sheeter at Thokkottu flyover has intensified, with the Mangaluru City Police securing three more accused in connection with the case. The latest arrests have taken the total number of accused persons in custody to 10, signalling significant progress in unravelling the conspiracy behind the killing that occurred on March 27.
According to Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH, the newly arrested individuals have been identified as Arshad, Puche Nisak, and Junaid. Officials stated that all three played varying roles in both the conspiracy leading to the murder and earlier attempts on the victim’s life.
Key conspirator provided logistical support
Police investigations have revealed that Arshad played a crucial role in executing the crime. He was allegedly part of the core conspiracy group and was responsible for multiple logistical arrangements. Authorities said he supplied weapons used in the attack, shared critical information about police movements, arranged transport for the accused, and also provided financial assistance to facilitate the operation.
Investigators believe that such coordinated support points to a well-planned conspiracy rather than a spontaneous act of violence. The police are now probing whether Arshad had links to organised criminal networks operating in the region.
Links to previous attacks uncovered
Further details emerging from the investigation indicate that Puche Nisak was not new to the case. Police allege that he was involved in an earlier attempt to murder the victim in February this year. Additionally, he is said to have been part of a violent attack on the same individual in 2022, suggesting a long-standing enmity and repeated attempts on the victim’s life.
Similarly, Junaid has been accused of providing logistical support during the February attempt. Officials said he arranged the vehicle used during that incident and was part of the team involved in executing the failed attack.
These revelations have strengthened the police’s suspicion that the March 27 murder was the culmination of multiple failed attempts carried out over a period of time.
Investigation still underway
Commissioner Reddy stated that the investigation is far from complete and that more individuals are likely to be involved in the case. Police teams are actively working to trace additional suspects and gather evidence to establish the full extent of the conspiracy.
Authorities are also examining call records, financial transactions, and movement patterns of the accused to identify any wider network or external support. Surveillance footage and forensic evidence collected from the crime scene are being analysed to corroborate statements given by those arrested.
Heightened vigilance in the region
The incident has raised concerns over organised criminal activity and the presence of repeat offenders in the coastal city. Police have stepped up vigilance in sensitive areas and are keeping a close watch on known offenders to prevent any retaliatory violence.
Officials have assured the public that strict action will be taken against all those involved and that efforts are being made to ensure law and order is maintained.
Conclusion
With 10 accused now in custody, the Mangaluru Police have made notable progress in cracking the case. However, the investigation continues as authorities work to identify all individuals involved in the conspiracy. The case highlights the importance of sustained policing efforts to tackle repeat offenders and prevent escalation of criminal activities in the region.
