Umar Farooq, also known as Azhar, a 31-year-old Swiggy delivery rider, tragically lost his life in a collision near Sankolige on National Highway 66, close to Ullal. Hailing from Paneer, Deralakatte, Farooq was unmarried and dedicated to his work as a food delivery agent.
The fatal accident unfolded late at night on December 31 as Farooq was en route to Thokkottu after delivering an order in Talapady. A truck moving in the same direction reportedly hit his scooter, causing him to fall onto the road. Tragically, the truck’s rear wheels ran over him, resulting in his instant demise.
The local authorities from the Mangaluru South traffic department have filed a case and launched an inquiry into the unfortunate event.
Farooq’s untimely death has left the community in shock, raising concerns about the safety of delivery personnel and the risks they face daily.
