In a heartbreaking event, an 84-year-old farmer from Badagudde, Kalavara in Kundapur, tragically perished in a fire while burning crop residue on his land on Saturday. The deceased, Mahalinga Devadiga, had visited his field with his daughter, Baby, to burn the collected agricultural waste in the afternoon.

Regrettably, the fire spread rapidly, consuming not only the field but also a nearby sacred grove (Nagabana). As Devadiga’s daughter rushed to the grove to attempt to extinguish the flames, her father became trapped in the growing blaze. Despite her desperate efforts, Devadiga could not escape the fire and was fatally burned.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident. The sudden tragedy has left the community in shock, with many expressing their sorrow for the family’s loss. This incident also serves as a grim reminder of the hazards associated with open burning, particularly in agricultural settings.
