A rail passenger was fined ₹1,500 by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) after pulling the emergency chain during a seat dispute, causing an unscheduled halt of the train.

The incident took place on Tuesday aboard a passenger train that had departed from Subrahmanya. As the train approached Bantwal, the crowded compartments led to a heated argument between two passengers over seating arrangements.

In a fit of frustration, one passenger yanked the emergency chain, forcing the train to come to a sudden stop. This triggered concern among other travelers and a brief disruption of service.

Railway officials promptly assessed the situation and ensured the journey resumed with minimal delay. Upon reaching Mangaluru Junction, the RPF identified the passenger responsible through an on-spot investigation.

The individual was questioned and penalised ₹1,500 for misusing the emergency chain, which is intended strictly for real emergencies. He was also issued a formal warning and advised against repeating such actions.

Authorities reminded the public that chain pulling without valid cause is a punishable offense under railway rules. Misuse not only delays the train but also compromises passenger safety and disrupts operational efficiency.

This incident serves as a cautionary reminder about the responsible use of safety mechanisms and the need for patience during crowded travel situations.
