Belthangady: Entry for trekking to Gadayikallu in Belthangady taluk has been prohibited from June 14 following continuous rainfall that has made the route unsafe for visitors. The restriction has been imposed by the Wildlife Division of the Forest Department as a precautionary measure amid increasing risks associated with the monsoon season.
According to Forest Department officials, persistent rain in the region has resulted in slippery terrain, unstable rocks and the possibility of landslides along the trekking route. Considering the safety of visitors, authorities have decided to temporarily suspend trekking activities until conditions improve.
The move comes barely two weeks after trekking was reopened to the public. The department had granted permission for trekking to Gadayikallu from June 1, allowing nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts to once again access one of the region’s popular trekking destinations.
Heavy rainfall prompts restriction
Officials stated that the decision was taken after assessing the condition of the trekking trail and surrounding areas. Continuous rainfall has increased the likelihood of rockfalls and soil erosion, making movement along the route potentially hazardous.
