Mangaluru:Two persons who had earlier evaded excise officials while transporting ganja in a Bolero vehicle were arrested by police when they attempted to sell the drugs on a bike. With this, the number of arrests in the Bantwal ganja smuggling case has risen to four.
Arrest details and seizure
The newly arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Azaruddin from Farangipete and Mohammad Ashraf from Ammemar. Police recovered 10 kg of ganja from their possession during the operation.
Earlier, on October 8, Bantwal town police had apprehended two other accused, Abdul Sadiq and Abdul Majeed, during a routine patrol led by PSI Sandeep Kumar Shetty.
Police operation and leadership
The crackdown was conducted under the supervision of Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police Dr Arun K, additional SP Anil Kumar Boomereddy, and Bantwal DYSP S Vijayaprasad. The operation at the ground level was led by Bantwal town police inspector Anantapadmanabha, along with PSIs Sandeep Kumar Shetty and Durgappa, ASIs Narayan and Naveen Kumar, and other staff members.
Police have confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the ganja and identify any additional suspects involved in the smuggling operation.
