Mangaluru: Ullal MLA and Assembly Speaker UT Khader has expressed concern over the area’s frequent flooding during rainfall, warning that if unchecked, Ullal may face a similar fate as Bengaluru, which floods even with light showers. He stressed the urgent need to clear encroachments on the Rajakaluve (stormwater drain). To tackle this, a drone survey will be undertaken, followed by land marking. He urged residents to voluntarily vacate encroachments rather than leave the task to authorities.

In a long-awaited development, the Railway Department has approved the construction of an underpass at the Ullal railway crossing, with a budget of ₹2 crore allocated for the project.

On the education front, Khader announced that two exclusive residential educational institutions for minority girls will be set up in the Ullal constituency, as promised in the state budget by CM Siddaramaiah. One of these, under the Minority Welfare Department, has already received Cabinet approval with ₹17 crore sanctioned. The second, under the VAX Department, is awaiting final clearance from the Finance Department.

The institutions—proposed in Konaje or Pazir—will offer education from primary to graduation. Another facility in a different part of Ullal will provide PU-level education and beyond. Admission will follow a 70:30 ratio for minority and non-minority students, respectively.

Khader also mentioned efforts to introduce English-medium instruction in all government schools. Currently, eight schools already offer UKG classes under ELLEGI. The Education Department has now mandated that these institutions be managed directly by the government.
