Puttur, Dakshina Kannada : A case has been registered against 30 individuals, including Ashraf Bavu, president of the SDPI Puttur Assembly Constituency, for allegedly staging an unauthorized protest without prior permission near Kille Maidan, Puttur.
The protest took place on the evening of July 2, where the group, led by SDPI members and a Puttur Municipal Council member, gathered to demand justice in connection with a rape case involving a BJP leader’s son. Protesters reportedly used loudspeakers during the demonstration.
Authorities stated that the protest lacked prior approval from the relevant department, violating norms related to public gatherings and sound regulations. Following this, the Puttur City Police registered a case under Case No. A.Kr 53/2025.
Legal proceedings have been initiated under Section 189(c) of the Indian Penal Code (unlawful assembly with the intent to disturb public peace) and Section 109 of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963, which deals with holding assemblies without proper authorization.
Police are currently identifying all participants involved in the incident and further investigations are underway.
