Mangaluru: St. Francis Xavier Church, Bejai, in partnership with the Lions & Leo Club – Bejai unit, Catholic Sabha – Bejai unit, and the Commissions for Justice, Peace, and Interfaith Dialogue, hosted an interfaith Christmas celebration on December 20 at the church hall.

Esteemed guests included Mohammad Kunhi, state secretary of JIH Karnataka and Shanthi Prakashana administrator, and advocate Dinesh Hegde Ulipadi, both of whom shared messages of unity. Other dignitaries were parish priest Fr. J B Saldanha, assistant priest Fr. Norman Mathias, Angela Convent superior Sr. Sevrine Crasta, and leaders from Bejai’s Catholic Sabha and parish pastoral council.

The event began with the ceremonial unveiling of the infant Jesus statue, followed by a soulful prayer hymn by the Lourdes Central School choir. A traditional welcome dance by St. Angela Convent’s hostel students delighted the audience.

Guest speakers emphasized fostering harmony and compassion across faiths. Fr. Saldanha highlighted the essence of Christmas: love and togetherness. Cultural highlights included performances by St. Francis Xavier School students, a nativity-themed drama by St. Luke ward members, and lively carol singing by ICYM members.

The event concluded with joyful dancing led by Santas, uniting attendees in festive cheer. This celebration of inclusivity and shared values underscored the importance of coming together for peace and understanding.
