Puttur: A family dispute turned tragic in Perne under the Uppinangady police limits in Puttur taluk after a woman allegedly threw two young children into a well, resulting in the death of one toddler and leaving another seriously injured.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 19, following an argument between a woman and her husband over a mobile phone call, according to a report by Daijiworld. Police have taken the woman into custody and registered a case in connection with the incident.

The two children were reportedly pulled out of the well by alert neighbours. One of them could not be revived, while the other was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.

Domestic dispute precedes tragedy

According to the initial report, the incident followed a heated argument between Sinan, 32, and his wife Noorunnisa, 28.

The dispute was reportedly linked to a phone call. The argument allegedly escalated before Noorunnisa took the two children to a nearby well in Perne.

Police and local sources reported that the woman allegedly threw her own three-and-a-half-year-old child and her sister-in-law’s three-year-old child into the well.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated, and the allegations against the accused woman will be subject to the ongoing police investigation and legal process.

Neighbours rescue children from well

The children were reportedly noticed after they had been thrown into the water. Neighbours rushed to the spot and managed to pull both children out of the well.

The rescue effort, however, could not save one of the children.

The three-year-old child belonging to the accused woman’s sister-in-law reportedly died following the incident.

The accused woman’s own child survived the initial rescue but sustained serious injuries. The child was subsequently shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment.
