Since Wednesday, violent winds in the deep sea have forced fishing boats to remain anchored in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada. The strong winds, blowing from south to north, combined with high water pressure, have made deep-sea fishing impossible. Consequently, 370 small trawl boats and several purse seine boats are docked at various ports.
Many fishing boats from Malpe port have sought refuge at Karwar port, while purse seine boats from Mangaluru have anchored at Malpe port, as confirmed by Subhash Mendon, president of the Deep Sea Fishermen’s Association.
This unexpected weather disruption at the beginning of the fishing season has been disheartening for the fishing community. However, they remain optimistic that conditions will improve soon, allowing them to resume their livelihood.
