Belthangady: Punjalakatte police have arrested a warrant accused who had allegedly been absconding for nearly nine years in connection with a case registered at the police station in 2016.

The accused has been identified as Shabeer, a resident of Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district. According to police, he had failed to appear before the competent court during the proceedings and remained absconding for around nine years.

Case dates back to 2016

Shabeer was wanted in connection with Punjalakatte police station Crime No. 156/2016, registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 42, 42 and 44 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act.

Acting on the warrant, a team from Punjalakatte police station traced Shabeer to Chikkamagaluru and arrested him.

The team comprised Head Constable 1023 Rajesh and Constables Cholappa Sanshi and Nagaraj.

Accused remanded to judicial custody

Following his arrest, Shabeer was produced before the competent court on August 22.

The court subsequently remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.

The arrest brings to an end the accused’s prolonged period of absconding in a case that has remained pending since 2016.
