The Young Indians (Yi) Mangaluru chapter has launched a significant Braille Menu Initiative at Nosh restaurant in Mangaluru, aiming to make the hospitality industry more inclusive. The event featured Mohammed Ashiq, the winner of MasterChef India season 8, as a special guest, highlighting the initiative’s importance.

This collaboration with the hospitality industry is expected to inspire more restaurants in Mangaluru to adopt Braille menus and other accessibility measures. The launch was supported by students and faculty from the Roman Catherine Lobo Institute for the visually impaired, who actively participated in the unveiling of the Braille menu.

Key figures like M Athmika Amin, Yi Mangaluru chapter chair, and CA Salome Lobo Pereira, co-chair, have played pivotal roles in making this initiative a reality. Yi Mangaluru’s Accessibility Vertical, focused on promoting inclusivity, has also worked on other projects such as building ramps and organizing disability etiquette sessions.

The Braille Menu Initiative is part of Yi’s ongoing commitment to empower differently-abled individuals and promote accessibility. Yi Mangaluru’s leadership envisions this launch as a starting point for widespread adoption across the city, furthering the chapter’s goal of creating an inclusive society with equal opportunities for all.
