Mangaluru: A young couple faced a disturbing incident of harassment at Birumalegudda in Puttur, where they were targeted by a group of intoxicated men. The unruly gang confronted the couple, captured videos and photos, and shared the content on social media, causing them further embarrassment and trauma.
The group not only recorded their interaction but also resorted to verbal abuse and attempted to physically assault the woman. Reports indicate that they snatched her helmet and used derogatory language during the altercation. Fortunately, the couple managed to flee the spot before the situation escalated further.
This disturbing act of harassment has once again drawn public anger over the recurring issue of moral policing in the Dakshina Kannada region. Many citizens, activists, and community leaders are voicing concern and urging authorities to take strict legal action against those involved.
Locals stress that such incidents reflect a growing intolerance and misuse of personal freedoms, where self-proclaimed vigilantes take it upon themselves to impose their version of morality. The demand for an immediate crackdown on these actions is growing louder, especially as several similar cases have been reported in recent years.
Calls are now being made to the police and district administration to curb this troubling pattern, protect personal freedoms, and uphold the law. Civic groups are also pushing for awareness campaigns to discourage such unlawful behavior.
