Starting from Bantwal and concluding in Ullal, the “Parisara Nyayakkagi Yuvadhwani – Niradariya Nade” (Youth Voice for Environmental Justice – Walk for River Restoration) march is set to raise awareness about critical environmental issues. Organized by Yuva Munnade Karnataka and Samvada Yuva Sampanmula Kendra, Mangaluru, the initiative targets riverbank deforestation, water pollution, sand mining, and plastic waste disposal in rivers.
The march will commence on Sunday, July 7, from the cremation ground near Baddakatte. Activities on the first day include visits to Bantwal, the rural police station, fire brigade office, and the Nandavar temple via Panemangalore bridge. Participants will also explore Pavoor Island, local churches, and the Inoli Somanatheshwara temple, engaging with farmers along the way.
Day two focuses on engagements with Bantwal municipality officials, government schools, and colleges. An awareness program at B C Road market is planned, followed by visits to the urban police station, a mosque, and the Thumbe vented dam. The day concludes with visits to the Adyar new bridge and a meeting with Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba at Pumpwell Circle.
On the final day, July 9, the march progresses towards Ullal, visiting the Ullal bridge and conducting awareness activities at Thokkottu market. The culmination occurs at Ullal beach, symbolically where the Netravati river meets the sea. Post-march, organizers intend to meet the deputy commissioner to present a memorandum.
