An Indonesian model who vanished a year ago has been discovered dead in a morgue in Bahrain. When work dried up, 31-year-old Kaikan Kaennakam reportedly looked for opportunities abroad, according to China Times. According to the outlet, she moved to Bahrain three years ago to support her family in northern Thailand after finding work at a restaurant there. She used to notify her family that she had met and moved in with her Bahraini boyfriend and would frequently post on social media.
But in April 2023, she abruptly stopped posting, worrying her family. They couldn’t get through to her on the phone.
The Thai embassy was contacted by Kaikan’s family in January of this year, but they were unable to locate.
The family was notified by the Thai embassy on April 18 that the body of an unidentified woman from Southeast Asia had been placed in the Salmaniya Medical Complex morgue. She identified Kaikan Kaennakam for her family thanks to a tattoo on her leg, China Times reported.
Alcohol poisoning-related acute cardiopulmonary failure was the cause of death.
Kaikan’s family feels her death was suspicious, and they are currently looking for assistance to repatriate her body, according to Daily Star.
As per the outlet, Kaikan’s sister Suthida Ngernthaworn said in an online post on April 19: “My sister started working in Bahrain around two or three years ago and found an Arab boyfriend there.”
“However, we have not been able to contact her since April last year. Our family contacted the Thai Embassy in Bahrain and learned on April 18 this month that she had passed away,” the post further said.
