In Bengaluru on Sunday, the bike they were riding went off the road and fell into a pit being dug up for a water pipeline, leaving one man dead and two others critically hurt, according to police. They added that the other two men are critically ill, but one of them passed away immediately.
The man operating the bike in the Kengeri area apparently drove into the deep pit without realizing it, according to the police.
Residents who hurried the young people who were hurt to the hospital accused the city officials of failing to block off the pit and place signage to direct riders.
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, however, said that barricades were in place and alleged that the three men were drunk so they missed the signs.
