Delhi : The AC coaches are no longer seen as a luxury; online reports of unnecessary disruptions in these sections are common. The Kumbh Express (12369), which runs between Howrah Junction and Dehradun, had a concerning incident that involved ticketless passengers almost “hijacking” the second AC compartment. This was revealed by a recent video. Social media users’ worries about safety and discomfort—even for those who spend a lot of money on AC coaches—have grown as a result of the footage’s quick and widespread visibility.

IFS Akash Verma, sharing the video on the micro-blogging site ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), depicted a chaotic scene with ticketless passengers disrupting the travel experience for legitimate travellers. The video portrayed a disorderly crowd filling the passage, with two police personnel attempting to manage the situation.

The caption, which quickly went viral, emphasized how urgent it is to take action: “A friend on train 12369 shared this video of an AC 2 coach hijacked by ticketless encroachers who are harassing passengers, taking over their berths, and pulling chain.” Most of the passengers are older adults. Need sanitary supplies right away!”

Social media users promptly reacted to the video, expressing dismay over the state of railway affairs. One comment lamented, “Sad state of railway affairs,” while another shared a personal experience, stating, “Unfortunately, no one is there to listen. Recently, I traveled from BBSR TO JUNAGARH ROAD and there was no attendant in 2A coach. TTE caught hold of 2 railway staff and distributed bed rolls and after 2 hours, no one was there.”

Addressing the Railway Minister directly, the third commenter queried, “@AshwiniVaishnaw this state of travel is an absolute shame . What exactly are the railway employees and security doing to ensure this doesn’t happen.” The fourth one wrote, “This is a regular scene in Sleeper class and even in 3rd AC at times. But 2nd AC being hijacked is unheard off and it’s getting out of hand now. Railway police needs to be deployed in every single train to get things in control.”
