On Thursday, the Bengaluru police detained a minor in connection with the rape and killing of a 55-year-old woman.
The victim, who was originally from Raichur, had spent the previous year residing in Bengaluru. The accused, a 19-year-old Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh native, has been named.
The victim went to a liquor store on Tuesday, according to a police officer, and her body was discovered at a building site that was still under construction on Wednesday.
The post-mortem report, he continued, has verified that the woman had been raped prior to her murder.
Following a police review of CCTV footage, the accused was taken into custody. He had gone to the same liquor store as the woman and was observed trailing her out of the establishment.
According to reports, the accused admitted his crime while the police were looking into it.
