On Friday night, the Election Flying Squad officials made the first cash seizure of ₹ 1 crore from a house in Ettarai village, Tiruchirappalli. The seizure occurred ahead of the state’s Lok Sabha elections.
District Collector Pradeep Kumar said over the phone with ANI, “The officers from the Election Flying Squad went into the house at Ettarai village in Tiruchirappalli and searched it. They discovered cash in a bag that was worth ₹ 1 crore.
Mr Kumar said the election control room in the Trichy District Collectorate received a phone call, resulting in the recovery of the cash.
He informed further that the Election Flying Squad officials went to the village after receiving information that currency notes had been kept at a house.
According to the district collector, Income Tax officers are investigating who kept such large sums of cash at the residence and whether they were intended for use in the approaching Lok Sabha elections.

On April 19, the first round of general elections is set to begin with polling for 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu.
On June 4, the votes will be tallied.
