Studying, reading, and writing are not concepts that many children are really fond of. They choose to play instead as it is more enjoyable and there are no such compulsion apart from winning or losing. Parents struggle to get the playing children to study. With few children, there are no proper method or aids to study, hence they fail to keep up their scores, even after giving a try.

Studying is not only about reading, writing or learning. There are other factors that influence their study method. Factors such as physical environment, ability to concentrate, subject interest, and learning style matter to decide whether study habit is good or no.

So, let us understand how study methods are important for children

Learning styles

The concept of remembering the learning material depends on the styles. If the child remembers the concept by seeing, visualising the scene mostly he/she has visual learning style. If he/she recalls the events by listening to what others are saying or comfortable in group studies, then it is said to be auditory learning style. If the child learns by practically doing or implementing then it is said to be kinesthetic learner. Your child might be a combination of 3 learning styles. Let them concentrate more on the dominating learning style and prepare the study material according to it.

Physical Environment

These are minute things but affects while studying. Things such as enough light, ventilation are required. The more comfy things like pillow, bed might lead to sleep. Few children have the habit of roaming while reading, and few sit and study. So it is important to know whether the place is away from diverting items such as TV, Computer or Playmates.

The concentration ability

No matter whether the child chooses calm place to study or not, it is all about whether the child can focus on study at that moment. He/she might prepare a time table to learn the subjects, stick to it but when there is no attention span it is of no use. So make the child play some short-time framed attention games. Involving him/her in an interesting conversation also helps to build the attention span.

Interest in subject matters

Children have their own favourite subjects and teachers. Meanwhile few subjects are difficult for them and hence they can keep those subject to study in the beginning and easy subjects can be read later. The reason behind it is, the attention span in the beginning is high, the first 20 to 30 minutes let them engage in solving Maths problems or Science derivation. This helps them to stay engaged in the subject.

Finally it is not about how much someone studies but it’s about how much he/she can recalls and remember after studying so many concepts. There should not be overlapping of the concepts, and confusions with the concepts. So every parent must make sure that your child follows the best method of study to score well in the examination.
