ICAI national conference ‘Kshamatha’ inaugurated

Mangaluru: The two-day national conference of the Mangalore branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ‘Kshamatha’ was inaugurated today at Sanghanikethan, Mangaluru. Inaugurating the conference, the director of Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Dr. Shashikala Gurpur said, “the chartered accountants’ fraternity should adopt soft skill metrics in addition to professional qualifications to excel in the profession.”

Listing the important soft skill metrics, she said that skills like leadership abilities, communication, personality, professionalism in terms of ethics, time management and ensuring stakeholder satisfaction, etc. play an important role in success. Chartered accountants should serve their clients with professionalism, honesty and human values, without compromising on professional independence.”

Central Council member CA Babu K Abraham said, “The curriculum of CA has been modified to include soft skills as part of the subjects and it is mandatory now, to undergo soft skills training before qualifying.” The Chairman of the Southern India Regional Council, CA Cotha S Srinivas stressed the importance of the Chartered Accountants Benevolent Fund and requested members to contribute generously to the fund. In response to his call, three chartered accountants, namely, CA Jagannath Kamath, CA Nitin Shetty and CA S S Nayak, agreed to contribute more than one lakh rupees each and were honoured on the occasion.

Welcoming the guests, the chairman of the Mangalore branch CA Bhargava Tantri said, “The purpose of the seminar is to enhance the efficiency and capacity of the members and the conference is organized under the aegis of Committee for capacity building of members in practice of ICAI.”

Vice Chairman CA Shivananda Pai, Secretary CA Raviraj Baikampady, Treasurer CA Anantha Padmanabha, past chairman CA Keshava Ballakuraya were present on the occasion. More than 700 delegates from different parts of the country attended the conference.
