Mega procession marks ‘Basava Jayanti’

Dharwad: A mega procession carrying Basaveshwara portrait and a colourful display of folk arts by different troupes marked the celebration of Basava Jayanti in Dharwad on Saturday.

District In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni inaugurated the procession that started from Ulavi Channabasaveshwara temple by offering prayers to the portrait of Basaveshwara.

Folk arts troupes involving Karadimajalu, Mahila Dollu Kunita, Gombe Kunita, Dalpatta troupe all participated along with many pairs of bullocks in the procession.

Mallikarjuna Swamiji of Murugha Matt, DC Dr. S B Bommanahalli, MLC Mattikatti, ZP CEO R Snehal among other dignitaries took part in the procession that passed through important thoroughfares in the city before reaching Ulavi Channabasaveshwara temple.

The minister also garlanded a statue of Basaveshwara situated at Jubilee Circle as part of Jayanti celebrations, accompanied by ZP CEO, DC among others.

At a programme held at the DC office, minister Vinay Kulkarni released photos of Basaveshwara brought out by Information Department.

Ministers K J George, Eshwar Khandre, BBMP Mayor and others also celebrated Basava Jayanthi at Basaveshwara Circle in Bengaluru on Saturday.
