Mangaluru/Kodagu: Come rainy season, coastal and Kodagu district sport lovers organize events for all age group people with focus on youth in the wet paddy fields. The sporting events include tug of war, volleyball, running.
In small towns and villages, at least one member of the family takes part in the events as lot of fun is involved. Snacks and beverages will be served at few places.
There are instances where club members like Rotary and family members (surnames) vying against other clubs and families during the rainy sport events. There are instances to creates social awareness and promote environmental issues through the events.
Participants will be divided into different age groups and winners will be given away prizes at the end.
Learning by doing
At the same time schools organize activities in agricultural fields where students plant paddy saplings and learn more about the agricultural activities in the area. Teachers explain about crops and methods employed in cultivation. Most students enjoy the outing as the activity gives them practical knowledge when they relate it the contents of the text book.
Irrespective of age group most enjoy the outing as it gives an opportunity for all the participants get closer and the other nicest feature being, none complain about laundry bills!
