Chettalli (Madikeri): The forest department officials succeeded in capturing the third rogue elephant after they received permission from higher-ups to nab all four, two each in Madikeri and Virajpet forest divisions.
The captured elephant was shifted to Dubare Elephant Training Camp where the other two are undergoing training.
After being injected with tranquilisers the wild elephant ran a kilometer deep inside the forest before it collapsed. Tamed elephants and mahouts helped forest officials in transporting the captured elephant in a truck.
One mahout had a narrow escape when the tamed elephant along with him slipped and fell into a trench while forcing the wild elephant inside the waiting truck. Fortunately, an alert mahout took to his heals before the wild elephant could reach him averting a major tragedy.
