MP Dr. K. Sudhakar Urges Priority for Water Supply to Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Bangalore Rural
Chikkaballapur: Member of Parliament Dr. K. Sudhakar has requested the government to prioritise water supply to Chikkaballapur, Bangalore Rural, and Kolar districts under the Ettinahole Irrigation Project. He emphasised that these districts should receive water first, as they are the final beneficiaries of the government scheme.
The main objective of the Ettinahole Irrigation Project is to provide water to these three districts. Dr. Sudhakar stated that water should be supplied to Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, and Tumkur districts on the scheduled route of the project and then distributed to the next districts.
Dr. Sudhakar pointed out that no government has implemented a permanent irrigation plan for the rural districts of Kolar, Chikkaballapur, and Bangalore. He requested the Water Resources Minister to address and resolve the irrigation problems of these districts.
Dr. Sudhakar suggested that Krishna River water, located in Chikkaballapur district on the Andhra border, should be diverted to these three districts. He proposed that 5 to 10 TMC feet of Krishna River water be diverted, and if 10 TMC feet from the Narayanpura dam is given to Andhra, the problem will be resolved.
Dr. Sudhakar appreciated the Central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission Yojana, which aims to provide tap water to every poor household. He mentioned that ₹1,000 crore has been allocated for this project in the district. However, he noted that the project works are progressing slowly and face technical issues.
Dr. Sudhakar highlighted that 16 lakh people will receive five kg of rice each under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. He emphasised that the government has prioritised health, education, and the construction of houses for the poor, and suggested that landless beneficiaries should be given houses in the housing scheme.
