MRPL Donates Surgical Equipment to Veterinary Hospitals in Dakshina Kannada
Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for 2024-25, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has provided state-of-the-art surgical equipment to nine veterinary hospitals across Dakshina Kannada district. The contribution, valued at Rs 25.8 lakh, includes electrically operated hydraulic tables, shadowless lamps, operation tables, electrocautery machines, autoclaves, dressing trolleys, and a variety of surgical instruments.
Arun Kumar Shetty, the Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, explained that the surgical units at veterinary hospitals in Mulki, Kinnigoli, Moodbidri, Surathkal, Bajpe, Bantwal, Belthangady, Kadaba, and Kotekar were developed through the respective taluk panchayats. MRPL’s donation of modern equipment to these facilities will enable local farmers to have their domestic animals treated nearby, reducing the need to transport them to the district headquarters in Mangaluru.
Previously, surgeries for cattle and other animals had to be conducted at the district center in Mangaluru, but with these upgrades, treatment will be more accessible to local communities. The equipment was formally handed over by MRPL’s CSR head, Prashanth Baliga, to the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO, Anadh K, at a ceremony held at the Surathkal veterinary hospital.
In addition, Dr. Shetty shared that the department had also received equipment worth Rs 6 lakh from Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF). Financial support for procuring necessary equipment for veterinary hospitals has also been extended by Canara Bank and Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) in previous instances.
