Mysuru: Former member of the Karnataka State Open University(KSOU) organisational committee, KS Shivaram opposed the proposed construction of (KSOU) Regional Centre at Thippasandra Village of Magadi Shivaram.

The minister is resisting the development on grounds that it’s unnecessary and might place a heavy burden on KSOU coffers. He feels that a 25-crore worth project is an additional burden on an already afflicted KSOU administration.

Shivaram observed, “The move to construct KSOU regional centres, was earlier opposed by Hon’ble Dr Justice K. Bhaktavatsala Satyashodhana Samiti, and KSOU had agreed to abide by the report of the committee at the High Court proceedings. He added that taking up the construction activities now was unacceptable, and a petition on contempt of court will be filed soon.

He further said that the existing regional centres have placed a heavy burden on the KSOU’s coffer, wherein only as many as 200 students take admissions. He emphasized that picking up new projects won’t be beneficial as the maintenance of such centres usually require lakhs of rupees.

He also expressed his fear that the greed for commission could be the reason behind taking up the construction projects. Further, Shivaram warned of a street protest if the project work was not suspended immediately.

The land in question belongs to Karnataka State Sanskrit University.
