MYSURU — A tragic incident in Bettahalli village has resulted in the death of a 65-year-old man and the illness of 25 others, allegedly due to contaminated water.

Dr. P.C. Kumara Swamy, Mysuru District Health Officer, reported that upon receiving gastroenteritis complaints on Tuesday night, health teams were dispatched immediately. The village, which has around 300 houses, has been divided among 14 teams, including ASHA workers and health officials, thttps://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/drinking/contamination.html#:~:text=Harmful%20germs%20and%20chemicals%20can,Manufacturing%20operationso treat affected individuals and inspect 30 houses each. A 24/7 clinic has been established at the government primary school, and water samples are being analyzed in the laboratory.

The deceased, Govindegowda, succumbed to severe gastroenteritis symptoms, including vomiting and diarrhea, reportedly due to delays in medical treatment. Five of the affected individuals have been admitted to KR Hospital and other private facilities in Mysuru, while the rest are receiving home care.

The source of contamination is believed to be water from a local village tank. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the contamination.
