Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R Ashoka, has announced that all BJP MLAs and MLCs will donate one month’s salary to the families of the 11 victims who died in the June 4 stampede outside Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB IPL victory celebration.

Speaking at a protest outside Vidhana Soudha, Ashoka demanded a three-day special session of the Assembly to address the tragedy and said a formal request would be submitted to the Speaker and Chief Minister. He accused the Congress government of ignoring police warnings, violating safety norms, and prioritizing political optics over public safety.

Ashoka alleged that the event was organised in haste despite multiple red flags raised by law enforcement. Citing a police letter to the Chief Secretary ahead of the programme, he questioned why the event was not postponed despite the reported deaths of eight individuals before the programme began.

He also called for the resignations of CM Siddaramaiah and DyCM DK Shivakumar, claiming they lacked compassion and failed in their responsibilities.

While the state government has ordered multiple inquiries, Ashoka insisted on a judicial probe led by a High Court judge, arguing that the existing investigations lack transparency. He further demanded ₹1 crore compensation for each of the deceased, stating that if the government is not at fault, it should have no objection.
