Mysuru: The BJP is set to kick off its ‘Janakrosha Yatra’ in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s home district on Monday, protesting the Congress government’s move to grant 4% reservation to Muslims in government tenders, as well as the steep rise in essential commodity prices and service charges.
BJP state president B Y Vijayendra, speaking during the party’s Foundation Day celebrations in Bengaluru, announced that the yatra will span four phases until May 3, with Union Minister Pralhad Joshi flagging it off following prayers at Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysuru.
Leaders of the Opposition, R Ashoka (Assembly) and Chalavadi T Narayanaswamy (Council), accused the Congress of “appeasement politics”, saying the government’s policies are burdening citizens while fostering communal imbalance.
Ashoka alleged that the government’s plan to offer tender reservations for Muslims could skew nearly 70% of contracts towards one community. He also criticized the administration for imposing garbage cess on residents, including those with vacant sites, claiming it was a move to collect Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 crore in commissions.
The yatra will conclude with a grand convention in Bengaluru on May 3. Vijayendra also highlighted the party’s week-long ‘Grama Chalo’ programme, where BJP members will engage with villagers, highlight Central schemes, and undertake Shramdaan activities like temple cleaning.
The initiative is seen as a strategic attempt to mobilize grassroots support and counter the Congress narrative in Karnataka ahead of future polls.
