Mysuru: A chlorine cylinder leak at Rida Steel Traders near Varuna canal in Old Kesare on Friday evening resulted in seven individuals falling ill. The incident occurred while a cylinder, purportedly containing chlorine, was being cut at the scrap shop.
According to police reports, the cylinder in question was one of several purchased and transported from Davanagere a few months ago. Residents living near the shop complained of breathing difficulties and skin irritation after inhaling the gas.
Affected individuals were immediately admitted and treated at K R Hospital and a private hospital. Mysuru District Health Officer P C Kumarswamy stated that all patients are currently recovering.
In response to the emergency, four ambulances have been stationed in the area. Additionally, medical personnel including the Taluk Health Officer, District T B Programme Officer, and local Primary Health Center (PHC) medical officer have been deployed to manage any potential additional cases.
To accommodate any potential influx of patients, authorities have reserved 20 beds each at K R Hospital and the District Hospital. Dr. Kumarswamy emphasized the readiness of healthcare facilities to address the situation effectively.
