In a significant development impacting students of engineering and other professional courses, the Karnataka State Government has sanctioned a 10% fee hike. The decision was finalized during a recent meeting in Bengaluru, chaired by Higher Education Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar and Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, and attended by representatives from engineering and professional colleges.

The move comes after private college managements lobbied for a 15% fee increase, citing financial challenges and rising operational costs. Previously, the BJP-led government had approved a similar 10% hike, which was later rescinded by the Congress government after it assumed power, reducing the hike to 7%.

The renewed approval for a 10% hike reflects ongoing concerns among private college managements regarding financial sustainability and the need to maintain educational standards. This decision is expected to impact thousands of students across the state pursuing professional courses, necessitating adjustments in their financial planning.

Students and their families are likely to face increased financial burdens as a result of the fee hike, prompting discussions on affordability and access to quality education in Karnataka.
