A tragic incident in Hunsur taluk of Mysuru district has left a family devastated after a six-and-a-half-month-old infant died from choking on a dried flower at home.

The child, Chinmay Gowda, was reportedly playing with his elder sibling at their residence in Doddahejjoor village when the incident occurred.

Sudden accident during play

According to reports, a dried hibiscus flower had been placed at the entrance of the house for pooja. During play, the infant picked up a piece of the flower and put it into his mouth.

When the elder sibling tried to remove it, the child accidentally swallowed the piece, leading to breathing difficulty.

Rush to hospital fails to save infant

Family members immediately rushed the baby to a hospital in Hanagodu for first aid. As the condition worsened, the infant was shifted to a private hospital in Mysuru for advanced treatment.

Despite medical intervention, the child could not be saved.

A reminder on child safety

The incident has highlighted the risks posed by small objects within reach of infants, especially during early developmental stages when children tend to explore surroundings by putting items into their mouths.

Experts often advise parents and caregivers to ensure that potentially hazardous objects are kept out of reach and to maintain constant supervision of infants.

Community in shock

The sudden loss has left the local community in shock, with residents expressing grief over the tragic and preventable nature of the incident.

Authorities and health professionals continue to emphasise awareness about child safety at home to prevent such heartbreaking incidents.
