Mysuru: With the water level nearing its maximum capacity, officials have decided to release water from Kabini dam to fill tanks and for drinking purposes. Following the irrigation consultative committee’s decision, water will be released for 16 days starting from July 10. Mahesh K., superintending engineer, announced that water will be released into both left and right canals.
“This water is only to meet the drinking water needs of the people and cattle. The water will be released from July 10 to 25,” he stated in a press release. Regarding the release of water for kharif crops, a decision will be made by the committee in the coming days.
The water level at the dam stood at 2,281.5 ft on Sunday, just below its maximum level of 2,284 ft, with an inflow of 5,039 cusecs and 3,250 cusecs currently being released into the river. Meanwhile, the water level at KRS dam reached 102 ft against its maximum level of 124.8 ft, with the dam receiving 11,027 cusecs of water. Water will also be released from the dam into Visvesvaraya canal starting Monday to fill tanks and meet the drinking water requirements of the district.
