To curb the spread of COVID-19 amid rising infections, the Karnataka government has directed schools to grant medical leave to students showing symptoms like fever, cold, or cough. This move comes ahead of school reopening on June 2, amid a reported 238 active COVID cases statewide, with Bengaluru alone accounting for over 150.

Between May 30 and 31, 58 fresh cases were reported while 53 patients recovered. Of the current patients, 225 are under home isolation, 13 are hospitalized, and one requires oxygen support. The virus has claimed five lives in the state so far, including one from Mysuru, as per the Health and Family Welfare Department’s latest bulletin.

Though officials assert the situation is not yet alarming, they urge the public to adopt standard safety practices such as mask usage, hand hygiene, and physical distancing. Furthermore, authorities have instructed that foreign arrivals must be reported to the Health Department for proper tracking and preventive measures.

In preparation for the academic term, the School Education and Literacy Department, along with health officials, issued a circular detailing strict COVID protocols. If any student shows signs of illness, they must be isolated, and parents informed to take the child home for treatment. Only after full recovery should the student return to class.

These measures aim to protect students and staff as schools resume while maintaining vigilance over the public health situation.
