Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) and local residents of Saraswathipuram have united to advocate for the preservation of Kukkarahalli Lake, currently managed by the University of Mysore. The meeting, titled “Kukkarahalliya Prastuta Stitigati Haagu Sambhavaniya Sankashtagalu” (Current State and Potential Issues of Kukkarahalli), was held at Sri Rama Mandira in Saraswathipuram, led by City BJP President L. Nagendra and former Corporator Vedavathi.
Nagendra highlighted his past efforts during his tenure as MLA, where he allocated significant funds for the lake’s development, including walking paths and greenery. Despite these efforts, he noted that recent heavy rains have not significantly increased the lake’s water levels due to urban development blocking traditional water sources like the Poornaiah Canal.
“To address this, we must clear encroachments blocking the canal to restore water flow into Kukkarahalli Lake,” Nagendra stated, pledging to work with environmentalists, experts, and activists.
MGP member K.V. Bhanu Prasanth underscored the organization’s ongoing advocacy for the lake’s preservation and called for the cooperation of Saraswathipuram residents, who would be directly impacted by any deterioration of the lake.
The meeting saw participation from MGP members Vishwanath, Nataraj, Arunkumar Shetty, S.V. Shankar, Puroshotham, and local residents H.R. Bapu Satyanarayana, C.V. Gopinath, and Vasudevarao.
