Mysuru/Shravanabelagola: Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, while addressing the 2624th Janma Kalyanak Mahotsava of Lord Mahavir Tirthankara at Chavundaraya Sabha Mantapa in Shravanabelagola, called upon people to imbibe Lord Mahavir’s timeless principles of non-violence, peace, sacrifice, friendship, and meditation in their lives. He emphasized that these values, exemplified by Lord Bahubali’s meditation, hold immense relevance in today’s conflict-ridden world.
The celebrations, marked by spiritual fervor, saw participation from Jain Mutt seer Abhinava Charukeerthi Panditacharya Bhattaraka Swami, who highlighted Mahavir’s mission of uplifting all living beings. Planning and Statistics Minister D Sudhakar noted how Mahatma Gandhi applied Mahavir’s non-violent path in India’s freedom struggle.
Hassan MP Shreyas Patel welcomed the governor’s visit and assured efforts to include Shravanabelagola in the PRASAD scheme, urging the state to forward a proposal to the Centre. MLA CN Balakrishna was also present.
In Mandya, Deputy Commissioner Kumara addressed Mahavir Jayanti celebrations at Shri Ananthanatha Swamy Digambara Temple, stating Mahavir’s five vows — truth, non-violence, non-possessiveness, forgiveness, and celibacy — can guide society towards harmony.
The DC also flagged off a chariot procession carrying the idol of Lord Mahavir through key streets. The event was attended by SP Mallikarjun Baladandi, Jain community leaders, and civic officials.
In Mysuru, the Sri Sumathi Nath Jain Swetambar Murti Pujak Sangha hosted elaborate celebrations beginning with early morning Abhisheka Puja, followed by a grand procession of 3,000 devotees across the city and a Dharmasabha discussing Lord Mahavir’s teachings.
