Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar acknowledged the significant role of Suttur Mutt in preserving the region’s heritage after the fall of the Mysuru kings, during the closing ceremony of the Bhajana Mela at the Suttur Jatra Mahotsava on Thursday. The Governor praised the mutt’s ancient legacy, emphasizing that the spiritual influence of Lord Mahadeshwara and the seers of Suttur Mutt had transformed the area into a revered site. He also pointed out that the mutt’s reach has now expanded worldwide.

“The annual Jatra Mahotsava at Suttur teaches us the ideal way to live and contributes to building a better society,” he said. He further noted the mutt’s contribution to the welfare of children from across eastern India, including Meghalaya, providing them with free education and sustenance. The Governor expressed his appreciation for the swift support offered by the seers during national crises like the pandemic, droughts, and floods.

BJP state unit president BY Vijayendra highlighted that the Suttur Mahotsava showcases India’s rich culture, supports agriculture, and boosts cottage industries. “Suttur Mutt contributes to national development through three key areas: health, education, and mass feeding,” he said.

Swami Muktidananda, president of the Mysuru Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, emphasized the need to connect religion with education and preserve India’s spiritual culture. Suttur Mutt’s seer, Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami, along with other dignitaries, attended the ceremony.
