Mysuru: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Saturday demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar over the tragic stampede during the RCB victory celebration in Bengaluru that claimed 11 lives. Joshi sharply criticised Shivakumar’s conduct during the event, terming it “dadagiri” and inappropriate for a leader.

“DK Shivakumar behaved like a street bully throughout the day. He should not remain in office even for a minute,” Joshi told reporters in Mysuru. He alleged that while senior police officials were suspended over security lapses, the political leaders responsible have been shielded.

Joshi questioned the logic behind suspending Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda for not issuing written permission for the event. He pointed out that Shivakumar himself had urged fans on social media to join the celebration and had personally gone to the airport with a flag to welcome the RCB team.

He criticised Congress’ national leadership as well, asking why Rahul Gandhi remained silent on the incident. “If the Congress high command truly had any control, action would’ve been taken against Shivakumar first,” Joshi said.

The minister also condemned the government’s response, accusing them of prioritising photo-ops over public safety. “Even after three deaths near Chinnaswamy, CM, DCM and their families were busy taking selfies with the team,” he alleged.

He termed the inquiry ordered by the state government as eyewash, initiated only after the high court took suo motu notice.
