Mysuru: Security measures ramped up for President’s visit
Mysuru City Police have beefed up security measures starting Saturday in anticipation of President Draupadi Murmu’s visit to the city on Monday and Tuesday. Several roads expected to be used by the President will have vehicular restrictions during her stay.
Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar convened a meeting with city police officials at CAR Grounds to finalise arrangements for the visit.
President’s itinerary in Mysuru
On September 1, President Murmu will arrive at Mysuru airport from Bengaluru aboard a special aircraft. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will receive her at 3.10 pm. She is scheduled to attend the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) at 4 pm.
Later that evening, at 8 pm, the President will visit Chamundi Hill.
On September 2, President Murmu will visit Mysuru Palace at 8.50 am, where she will be welcomed by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, head of the erstwhile royal family. This marks the second visit of the President to Mysuru; she had earlier inaugurated Nada Habba Dasara on September 26, 2022.
Impact on public access
In view of the President’s schedule:
- Devotees will be allowed to visit Sri Chamundeshwari Devi Temple only from 7.30 am to 2 pm and after 8.30 pm on Monday.
- Mysuru Palace will remain closed to visitors until 11.30 am on September 2.
- The Sound and Light programme scheduled for the evening of September 1 has been cancelled.
AIISH Director M Pushpavathi stated in a press note that public entry and treatment at the institute will be cancelled on September 1, and a holiday has been declared for all departments.
