Mysuru: Mysuru is set to receive a fresh development push as the Karnataka government plans a new strategy to strengthen the city as a major urban centre and help ease the growing pressure on Bengaluru.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday said Mysuru would be among five major cities in Karnataka identified for a new development plan aimed at reducing population density, traffic congestion and pressure on infrastructure in Bengaluru.
Mysuru to get focus on jobs and essential services
Speaking to reporters after arriving at the Oval Grounds to inaugurate the 111th birth anniversary celebrations of Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswami at the Mysuru branch of Suttur Mutt, Shivakumar said special programmes would be formulated for the selected cities.
For Mysuru, the proposed plan is expected to focus on creating more employment opportunities while strengthening education, healthcare and infrastructure.
City could emerge as a stronger growth centre
The government’s plan places Mysuru among the key cities that could take on a larger role in Karnataka’s future development. By creating more opportunities outside Bengaluru, the State aims to encourage a more balanced distribution of population and economic activity.
Mysuru, with its established educational institutions and growing urban infrastructure, could benefit significantly from such focused development.

Besides Mysuru, the proposed development initiative will cover Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad and Kalaburagi, along with another major city.
The move reflects the government’s objective of developing strong urban centres across Karnataka rather than allowing growth and infrastructure demands to remain concentrated in Bengaluru.
