To improve traffic flow and road safety, Mysuru city police are set to install 50 new smart traffic signal lights at key junctions in commercial areas and busy localities. This Rs 9.6 crore project is aimed at managing the growing vehicular traffic, especially as the city’s vehicle population increases, making traffic jams more frequent. The installation will be completed within six months.
The smart traffic signals will feature advanced capabilities such as vehicle-actuated mode, which adjusts green lights according to traffic demand, and special modes for emergencies or high-traffic events. The system will also include flash and lamp-off modes for adaptable signal operations, along with synchronization and fault detection programming.
Mysuru City Corporation is co-funding this initiative to modernize the city’s traffic management infrastructure. Deputy Commissioner of Police M Mutturaj explained that the project aims to not only improve traffic efficiency but also ensure the safety of motorists.
The junctions selected for the installation include Dhanvantri-Dewan’s Road Junction, JP Nagar Link Road-Nanjangud Road Junction, Ashoka Circle, Cauvery School Junction, and several others across the city. These smart signals are expected to significantly reduce congestion and enhance overall traffic flow.
