The Old Mysuru region is set for grand Maha Shivaratri celebrations on Wednesday, with temples across the area preparing to welcome thousands of devotees.
In Mysuru, the Trineshwara Temple, located within the Mysuru Palace premises, will feature its iconic 11-kg golden mask, which was donated in 1953 by Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar. The mask, brought from the treasury on Tuesday, will adorn the deity from morning until midnight on Shivaratri.
Authorities have deployed heavy security near temples, with a force comprising 6 ACPs, 25 inspectors, 57 PSIs, 110 ASIs, 738 constables, and 76 women constables, along with KSRP and CAR police.
Meanwhile, in Nanjangud, the historic Srikanteshwara Temple is set to host special pujas, drawing devotees from across South India. The town has made arrangements to accommodate pilgrims engaging in ‘jagarane’ (night-long vigil).
The Male Mahadeshwara Temple in MM Hills, Chamarajanagar, has already welcomed lakhs of devotees, including thousands from Tamil Nadu, many of whom arrived on foot, crossing the River Cauvery.
As a precautionary measure, DC Shilpa Nag has banned two-wheelers and autos from Kowdalli village to the temple until 7 PM on March 1. Devotees are encouraged to use KSRTC buses for their journey.
