Nanjangud witnessed a spectacular Theppotsava of Sri Nanjundeshwara Swamy on Tuesday night as part of the Girija Kalyana Mahotsava festivities.
The beautifully adorned festival idols of Srikanteshwara Swamy and Goddess Parvati, embellished with Vajra jewellery and vibrant flowers, were ceremoniously carried from the sanctum to a special mantapa set up near the Sthanaghatta along the Kapila River. After offering elaborate rituals, the deities were placed in a mechanical boat styled as a floating temple, illuminated with decorative lights and accompanied by Mangala instruments.
As the boat gracefully glided across the Kapila River, thousands of devotees cheered in devotion. The floating procession circled the river three times from east to west, creating a captivating sight that left the crowd spellbound.
Meanwhile, on the opposite riverbank, devotees from surrounding villages like Hejjige gathered to mark the occasion, lighting vibrant firecrackers that lit up the night sky.
Following the Theppotsava, the sacred idols were brought ashore and taken on a grand procession through the main streets of Nanjangud town. The riverbanks and temple vicinity gleamed with elaborate electric decorations.
Pilgrims from various parts of Karnataka flocked to Dakshinakashi Nanjangud to witness this cherished annual event, expressing their reverence and joy.
The Girija Kalyana Mahotsava, combined with the Theppotsava, reaffirmed the town’s deep cultural and spiritual heritage, drawing devotees in large numbers.
