Mysuru: Rajya Sabha Member Sudha Murty released the revised editions of the 10th and 13th volumes of the Kannada Encyclopaedia, published by Prasaranga, the University of Mysore’s (UoM) publication division, at Senate Hall in Crawford Hall this morning.
The first copies of the revised volumes were presented to K.T. Veerappa, former Director of Prasaranga, who was honored for his significant contributions to Kannada literature during his 16-year tenure at Prasaranga. In a gesture of respect, Sudha Murty touched Veerappa’s feet.
During an interaction with the audience, Sudha Murty, an accomplished author, addressed questions on various topics.
On Artificial Intelligence and Technology: Murty reflected on concerns similar to those faced with the advent of computers. She acknowledged the growing interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics but noted that while computers can perform tasks, they lack the emotional depth of humans. She emphasized that it is too early to fully understand the implications of AI.
On Gender and Support: Murty advocated for the support of women’s successes by their spouses, recognizing the multiple roles women juggle. She encouraged resilience in the face of negativity and emphasized moving forward with confidence.
On Social Media: Murty acknowledged the dual nature of social media, noting both its benefits and drawbacks. She shared a humorous anecdote about predictions made on social media regarding her potential presidential candidacy.
On Personal and Professional Success: She highlighted that hard work, rather than political influence, was key to the success of Infosys. Murty advised parents to avoid comparing their children with others and stressed the importance of nurturing individual skills.
On Language and Generational Values: Murty emphasized the value of Kannada, even as English becomes prominent. She encouraged the younger generation to value their parents and uphold familial bonds despite societal changes.
The event was attended by UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath and Registrar V.R. Shylaja.
